In southeastern Hamilton, once a small farming town of Binbrook can be found, however Binbrook’s small town charm as merged with a huge increase in population and many families today that happily call Binbrook home. Binbrook amalgamated into the city of Hamilton in 2001. Prior to that, Binbrook had a rich history of agriculture and First Nations people. The first registry of Binbrook can be dated back as late as 1791 when it was called Township #11.
Since 2001, several large pieces of farm land have been developed into hundreds of homes that have been built and the population has increased dramatically. According to the Census in 2017, the Binbrook population was over 9,400 people with the majority of the population being between 0-9 and 30-39 years of age, showing this area to be a haven for young families with children. Over 7,500 people of the total population were born in Canada.
Binbrook is home of one of the largest fall fairs. The Fall Fair includes entertainment such as food, live animals, unique artisan vendors, midway games, the famous smash up derby and so much more. The fair is hosted by the Agricultural Society, which also hosts many other community events such as the Spring Country Home and Garden Show, Roast Beef Dinners, and a New Year’s Eve Dinner & Dance. It is obvious the sense of community in Binbrook is what makes living there so special.
Attached to the Agricultural Centre is The Binbrook Little Theatre. The theatre was formed in 1963 by a local group of theatre enthusiasts. To this day, productions are held for children and adults attracting not only the community, but people from cities surrounding Binbrook. This award winning theatre operates from September through to May, providing something to enjoy during the fall, winter and spring!
Binbrook can be described as country charm with city amenities coming together creating the perfect town for families to live. Properties are a great investment as the area continues to grow in popularity due to its convenience and beauty. With it’s recent growth, popular store have moved in such as Shoppers Drug Mart, Freshco also while still being home to establishments that have been around servicing loyal customers for many years. Whether it is mouthwatering Fish and Chips from The Binbrook Grill, a Burger you need two hands to eat with from Binburger, or a day of golf at the Southbrook Golf and Country Club, there is something for everyone!
The Binbrook community is like a family, maintaining its strong roots in farming and opening arms to new residents that continue to support the local community while encouraging the vitality and growth of this small town gem that is a place oriented to raising a family.
